Shooting static shots may not sound as appealing as photographs depicting movement. However, changing from landscape to portrait allows you to concentrate on other elements of image composition. The most obvious of which are foreground and background within the shot. It might seem unlikely that they can dramatically change a shot but remember the idea is also to experiment with the basics of photography. Therefore, this is a basic technique that if used creatively produces great results.
In addition, changing camera angles enables vast amounts experimentation. You move beyond the basic technique of point and shot. For instance, by getting up on a table you get to capture artistic shots looking down at the subject. Likewise, getting low down and pointing the camera upwards provides the opportunity for interesting shots. You are now experimenting with techniques by dramatically changing perspective.
